One can only say so much before one is actually taking away from the experience. I have tried throughout this series to be a bit photo dude as well as participating artist. In the small world of Austin Wedding Photography, you start out photographing your friends, and because of this it’s hard to make a transition to business-only-photography. So I have decided to get to know all of my clients better, to be a part of what this …
This is the bread and butter of the album-soon-to-come. The emotion and passion in this wonderful outdoor wedding before a rustic wood alter, adored with crystals, Zack’s father gazing out from his portrait and blessing the union in sun made for some of the most fantastic photography captured by me and my other photographer on this job, Jenny DeMarco , YOU SHOULD GO TO HER SITE RIGHT NOW! BEST PHOTOGRAPHER I HAVE SEEN IN SOME TIME!!!!, all working with high sun and lots of heat coming of the freshly rained on pasture. I am super proud …
The events of a wedding day unfold like a flower in bloom. There isn’t a dull moment, starting with the preparations. Having your best of best peeps around, getting beautiful and lovely for your soon-to-be-spouse, wrestling the nerves away, it’s all an amazing time leading up to the event. I love it all! So I capture it all. Having enough memory and battery life is critical when you are doing something as epic as a wedding for over 250 guests. It’s management of your resources while optimizing the amount of coverage you get that keeps …
Sommer and Zack had a wonderful and intimate dinner at the Lost Pines Resort after the rehearsal for their summer wedding. I was on hand to photograph the toasts, the reunions, and the good times that seem to blossom in the presence of this amazing couple.

Sommer Novak is a walking smile. Years ago, I met Sommer at a small house party in my ol’ ’04 neighborhood. We met a few times after that, including at Terri’s Wedding (repost of Terri’s Wedding approaching soon, my peeps!) where this awesome group of musicians chipped in to play for that event. Sitting, strumming and singing was a (then bearded) Zack Hruska. After his good deed was done, he and Sommer joined the party to dance and bounce about like nobody’s business. It’s understandable that I foresaw this wedding. No credit awarded here, though, …

James and Monique have been heading towards the alter for years now, whether they knew it or not. What’s special to me about this wedding is obvious, it’s family. I know most photographers have a policy against photographing for family. It’s a lot of gray area AND money to hash out amongst people with whom you can’t dissolve a relationship. All eyes are on you and you are expected to do everything right, or better. It’s typically a recipe …
Most people in the “photography” industry will admit behind closed doors that they hate weddings. They don’t like dealing with stressed out, demanding brides, careless and often uncooperative grooms, the long hours not only at the ceremony and reception, but the countless butt-numbing days retouching at the work station. There are a million reasons to not like wedding photography, I guess. The pay is low relative to commercial work. The hours are tedious compared to portrait work. The glory is none existent compared to editorial and magazine work. But there is more emotion, more heart …

There’s no sound. I know. This is one of the movies that we actually provided for the couple. Each couple gets a stylized video like this as well as a documentary style disk of there wedding. The resolution is crap here, but looks amazing from the DVD. Because the couple selected a copyrighted song, YOUTUBE is require to disable sound. Since posting this video, Andrew from LiT Studios has begun posting on VIMEO to avoid such a problem.
I can’t remember the first time I met Nina, so it was likely at that RARE WEDDINGS event we did as …
People ask me about pricing all of the time. Especially since I price projects and events a little on the “less expensive” side. Part of this was just to get some images built up to show people. I was very careless for the first part of my photography career and didn’t keep anything but useless negatives and an occasionally a poloroid or three. The reason I still price a little lower is because of a couple of things. First of them being that there are hobbyists out there producing just-above-crap work that the uneducated client …
I have sort of been an ass about work lately. I need to be on the ball and looking out for all the possible paying clients I can. But instead I have been questioning my place in other peoples lives and burning personal bridges that needed too much repair. To show my gratitude to the great people I have had the pleasure of working with this past quarter, I want to tell you that you all rock! I have so much work to do on so many images, I wanted to show my updated …
